Polyester or Polyesterimide Overcoat
The copper wire is first coated with a layer of either polyester or polyesterimide. These materials provide electrical insulation to the copper conductor, preventing short circuits and electrical leakage. Polyester and polyesterimide offer excellent thermal and electrical properties, making them suitable for a wide range of operating temperatures.
Polyamide-Imide Enamel
A layer of polyamide-imide enamel is then applied over the polyester or polyesterimide coating. Polyamide-imide is a high-performance polymer known for its outstanding thermal resistance, mechanical strength, and electrical insulation properties. This additional enamel layer provides enhanced protection against heat, moisture, chemicals, and mechanical damage.
| High Temperature Rating | Rated for continuous operation at a maximum temperature of 200°C (392°F). |
| Excellent Electrical Insulation | Provides reliable insulation to help prevent electrical leakage, short circuits, and dielectric breakdown, ensuring safe operation. |
| Good Thermal Stability | Maintains excellent electrical and mechanical performance even under high-temperature operating conditions. |
| Mechanical Strength | Offers good resistance to bending, deformation, and mechanical stress during winding and operation. |
| Chemical Resistance | Resistant to a wide range of chemicals, oils, solvents, and other industrial contaminants. |
| Durability | Withstands normal wear and tear encountered in typical electrical applications, providing a long service life. |
| Versatility | Widely used in motors, transformers, generators, and various types of electrical equipment. |
Class 200 is a thermal class that requires a minimum temperature index of 200 and a minimum heat shock temperature of 220°C.
The temperature in degrees Celsius corresponding to the temperature index is not necessarily the recommended operating temperature of the wire. The actual operating temperature depends on many factors, including the type of electrical equipment involved.
The range of nominal conductor diameters covered by this standard is as follows:
(Nominal conductor diameters from 0.25 mm up to and including 2.500 mm.)
The polyester or polyesterimide overcoat, together with the polyamide-imide enamel layer, protects the copper conductor from physical damage and abrasion. Polyester and polyesterimide are durable insulating materials capable of withstanding moderate mechanical wear, while polyamide-imide provides excellent resistance to abrasion, heat, and long-term service conditions.
