Automobiles are the largest downstream application of recycled aluminum alloys. In 2024, my country's automobile production will reach 31.282 million units, a year-on-year increase of 3.7%. Among them, the annual output of new energy vehicles will exceed 10 million units for the first time, a year-on-year increase of 34.4%, and the market share will increase to 40.9%.
Although recycled aluminum alloys are currently mainly used in traditional fuel vehicles, in recent years, auto parts companies have accelerated the transformation from core components of fuel vehicles to the three-electric system of new energy vehicles, driving recycled aluminum companies to develop aluminum alloy products that meet new needs. Driven by the dual carbon goals, cost control and technological progress, the demand for recycled low-carbon aluminum alloy materials continues to rise. According to SMM estimates, the demand for recycled aluminum alloys for automobiles in 2024 will increase by 2.3% year-on-year.
In the first quarter of 2025, my country's automobile production totaled 7.561 million units, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%, of which the output of new energy vehicles increased by 50.4%, and production and sales continued to be strong. In 2025, it is expected that the demand for recycled aluminum alloys for automobiles will increase to 4.46 million tons.
The steady growth of the motorcycle industry has driven a slight increase in the market demand for recycled aluminum alloys.
Aluminum alloys have been widely used in motorcycles, among which aluminum castings occupy a core position. The main application components include cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, shock absorbers, brakes, handlebar covers and side covers. According to data from the China Motorcycle Chamber of Commerce, the industry will produce a total of 19.9708 million motorcycles in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 2.82%.
In addition to complete vehicles, motorcycle engine exports increased by 22% year-on-year to 1.15 million units. Overall, the demand for recycled aluminum alloys in motorcycles in 2024 increased by 3.4% year-on-year to 760,000 tons. With the support of subsequent policies, the steady growth of exports and the development of electrification, the demand for recycled aluminum alloys in motorcycles is expected to increase further.
