IEC 60317-0-3:2008 is a technical specification for enameled round aluminum wire published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It is part of the IEC 60317 series of standards (winding wire standards). This standard specifies the general requirements for aluminum enameled wire and is applicable to winding wire used in electrical equipment, such as motors, transformers, and inductors.
1. Conductor (Aluminum Conductor)
1.1 Materials and Processing
Material: Annealed round aluminum wire, conforming to IEC 60104 or equivalent, purity ≥ 99.7% (EC grade aluminum).
Processing:
Annealing is required after drawing to relieve stress and improve ductility.
The surface must be clean and free of oxide layer (use inert gas as necessary).

Note:
Aluminum wire with a diameter greater than 5.0 mm is generally not recommended for use in enameled wire due to its insufficient mechanical strength.

Example:
For a 0.5mm conductor with F-class (155°C) insulation:
Typical enamel thickness: 0.035 ± 0.005mm.
3. Performance Test Requirements
3.1 Electrical Performance
Breakdown Voltage (IEC 60851-2):
0.1mm diameter conductor: ≥300V (Grade 2).
Dielectric Loss (tanδ): ≤0.05 (at 1MHz) for high-frequency applications.
3.2 Mechanical Performance
Scratch Resistance Test (IEC 60851-3):
The PE film must withstand ≥20 scratches after being scratched by a steel needle until the conductor is exposed.
Flexibility (IEC 60851-5):
The film must be free of cracks after bending around an axis (axis diameter = 2 × wire diameter).
3.3 Thermal Performance
Thermal Shock (IEC 60851-6):
The film must show no cracking after being wound 10 times at 150°C (Grade F).
Softening Breakdown: The film must maintain insulation integrity at high temperatures.
